Janne Martin brings lean thinking to Arnon

Janne Martin, M.Sc. (Eng.) in Power Electronics, has been appointed Chief Operating Officer of Arnon Oy, a Tampere-based provider of electrical, automation, and cloud services, as of 15 October 2021.

Martin has previously worked for Konecranes for 23 years in various positions, most recently as General Manager of the Hämeenlinna production plant since 2015. Martin also served as an employee representative on Konecranes’ Board of Directors.

– It’s a big change to leave Konecranes after more than 20 years, but at the same time, it’s inspiring to start doing something completely new. The importance of electrification and automation in the world is growing and the electrotechnical field is developing rapidly, so at Arnon, I will be involved in making a real change, Martin describes his mood.

“The importance of electrification and automation in the world is growing and the electrotechnical field is developing rapidly.”

As a business developer, Martin brings lean thinking and waste elimination to Arnon.

– By pinpointing areas where too much time is spent, we can develop and speed up the entire production process. At the Hämeenlinna plant, we managed to halve the delivery time from four weeks to two weeks. Majority of opportunities for fine-tuning of processes were found in areas of order and goods processing, and other stages that enable the actual production. Only about one day of the two weeks was shortened by making people work more efficiently, Martin elaborates.

At Konecranes, Martin also served as a member of the board.

– Working on the board of a listed company was a very interesting and may I say enlightening period, which developed strategic thinking and management of large entities. I can also utilize that knowledge at Arnon. On the other hand, as a smaller organization, we can respond quickly to the needs and wishes of the market, customers, and stakeholders, Martin notes.

Martin also intends to develop environmental and occupational safety issues.

– Measures to save electricity and natural resources are important for the environment and often also the most economical solutions. It is everyone’s duty to take care of the environment and nature, Martin recalls.

The importance of nature can be seen in the ways Martin spends his free time.

– Spending time in nature in any form is relaxing. I go for walks with our dog and a few years ago I got a boat to continue the boating hobby I have had since I was a child. In winter I ski cross-country and downhill. I also enjoy doing renovation work and calm down by reading detective stories and war books.
