“I enjoy my job. The world and legislation are constantly changing, challenging us to grow, so I’m always encountering new things,” Nieminen says enthusiastically. The role requires continuous study and training – and that’s good.
Nieminen is known at Arnon as a cheerful colleague. “I have my bad days too. But my basic idea is that smiling and staying positive can make many things easier, including my well-being,” she notes.
In Nieminen’s view, Arnon is in a good place regarding HSE matters. The company is part of the Zero Accidents Forum, which motivates and encourages workplaces to strive for high levels of safety and well-being.
“Through the forum’s network, you see how things are done elsewhere, for example, through company visits. I’ve received confirmation for my work from the network. Many other companies are taking the same steps as we are,” Nieminen observes.
Arnon has taken steps including creating corporate and company-level policies, building a corporate model for occupational safety, using various systems more effectively, and compiling a chemical protection matrix. When Arnon switched to a more versatile partner, the recycling systems were updated. The carbon footprint calculation was completed in the spring.
Nieminen finds external reporting meaningful – it makes it easy to track one’s development. Arnon is participating in the Ecovadis assessment for the third time.
“We want Arnon’s name to be among companies that have done the right things,” Nieminen states.
In the future, ESG reporting will also demand the HSE Manager’s time. Arnon will be required to report for the first time in 2025.
In her free time, Nieminen serves on the board of Akaa Futsal, the reigning Finnish champion, and is responsible for ticket sales. “I used to attend every game. Since I was already there, it was easy to get involved,” the die-hard sports fan laughs. Her current sports are padel and golf.
And there’s one particular title that shouldn’t be forgotten: Nieminen is the grandmother of a one-and-a-half-year-old boy.
