Tampio initially studied mechanical engineering and production technology in Vaasa, and then went on to do a post-graduate degree in industrial management and innovation at Uppsala University. There were several reasons for his move to Sweden: the university had a good reputation, Tampio wanted a change of scenery, and he already had a friend studying in Uppsala. His biggest incentive was the structure of the course, however.
– The master’s degree course in Uppsala was targeted specifically at students who had an undergraduate degree in engineering. In Finland, these kinds of courses are typically designed for students with a background in economics, Tampio says.
After graduation, it felt natural for Tampio to stay in Sweden. He found his first job with a small local company and then made the move to Arnon.
A good combination of cultures
There is one misconception that Tampio has had to correct time and time again.
– People often assume that I was transferred here from Arnon Finland and that I know the team in Finland, Tampio says.
The two teams work closely together, which puts Tampio at a linguistic and cultural advantage. He can also confirm the accuracy of the old stereotype: Finnish people are more plain-spoken and faster to move from words to action. Swedes like to talk things through first.
– The two cultures work well together, and communication is always a priority, Tampio says.
Learning something new every day
Lifelong learning is important for Tampio, which makes Arnon the perfect place for him: There is something new to learn every day. Tampio is always looking for a chance to do things differently, to make something better, or to find a solution to a problem.
Tampio’s job as a Project Engineer includes mechanical problem-solving and design, as well as liaising with the production team, project management, and customers.
– We have a fantastic team and a great team spirit.
